GETTING THE HELP YOU NEED: PAWNEE'S PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

Help is Just a Phone Call Away

If you feel you are in crisis right now, Pawnee therapists are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In an emergency, you can talk to a clinician about your concerns, and they will recommend the most appropriate intervention. Either call one of our OFFICE LOCATIONS during normal business hours or call 1-800-609-2002 on evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays.

If you're feeling stressed or distressed, having problems with alcohol or other drugs, feel depressed or anxious, are experiencing family or marital difficulties, or have other concerns, you could benefit from the help of a mental health professional. If you have trouble just getting through the day, or if an emotional problem or substance abuse is interfering with your job or relationships, you should seek help.

To receive information or to make an appointment, please call the Pawnee OFFICE LOCATION nearest you. Remember that mental health care, like other health services, is a resource that is available to you when you just can't seem to handle your problems on your own. Everyone needs a little help now and then.

What happens when you come to Pawnee?

At your first appointment, you will meet with a licensed therapist who will ask questions to determine which Pawnee services will be most helpful to you. Together, you will develop a treatment plan and schedule your next appointment.

Confidentiality

Maintaining confidentiality is essential. Information you share with members of our staff will not be given to any other person without your written consent, except in certain circumstances defined by law. PRIVACY PRACTICES

Fees, insurance, and billing information

At your first appointment, you will be asked to provide information about insurance, income, and dependents in order to determine your payment rate. Fees vary according to the services provided. Fees are comparable to or lower than the cost of similar services in private agencies. Most major insurers cover the majority of treatment costs. Our staff file claims to private insurers, Medicaid, and Medicare, and Pawnee is an approved provider for mental health services for TRICARE clients. Clients without insurance may qualify for adjusted fees based on family size and income. Payment is expected at the time service is provided. Services will not be denied because of an inability to pay.

Community Support Services in Manhattan, Junction City, and Concordia serve area adults with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI). Through our community support services, participants receive a variety of services determined by their individual treatment plans.

Case Management: When a consumer is referred to CSS, a case manager is assigned to assist in developing a treatment plan utilizing the Strengths Based Case Management model. Consumers actively participate with their case manager in formulating goals and objectives to assist in maintaining their independence and autonomy.

Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment: A person with a dual diagnosis has both a severe mental illness and a substance abuse disorder. Integrated dual diagnosis treatment works well for consumers who have both disorders. One treatment team provides both mental health and substance abuse treatment services at the same location.

Attendant Care: This is a service involving one-on-one assignment of a trained staff member to provide support and training to a consumer to avoid referral to more intensive services and to maintain residency in the community.

Psychosocial Rehabilitation: These services provide a less structured environment than inpatient care and more care than outpatient services. While living in the community, consumers may participate in various groups such as daily-living skills training, recovery and coping skills, nutrition and wellness, fitness, and medication management.

Supported Employment: Staff assess vocational needs, provide vocational skills training, help to access employment resources, provide education about management of social security benefits, and assist with employment placement based on consumer choices. The program coordinates closely with Kansas Rehabilitation Services and community employers to provide on-the-job support for the entire length of employment.

Residential Services: The Supported Community Living Program offers housing options to enable individuals to achieve their highest possible level of independent living. Case managers and attendant care staff assist consumers in group living, transitional living, and independent living.

Compeer Program: Our companion/peer program matches community volunteers with consumers for weekly contact and activities. Volunteers are trained, then both friends make a commitment to stay in the match for one year. For information about the Compeer program and how to become a friend to someone who needs you, see VOLUNTEERING YOUR TIME.

Community Based Services
for Children and Adolescents

The following Community Based Services are available for children and adolescents who meet specific state-mandated qualifying criteria. If your child is a current Pawnee client and you are interested in any of these services, please discuss this with your child's Treatment Provider. If your child is not a current Pawnee client but you are interested in any of these services, please contact the Admissions staff at the OFFICE LOCATION nearest you.

Community Based Services bring Pawnee staff together with others in the community to help children and adolescents with Severe Emotional Disturbances (SED). We work with clients in the home, at school, and other places in the community. A therapist determines whether the child meets the criteria for SED and works with the family to decide which services the child should receive.

Case Management: The case manager helps the family coordinate all aspects of the child's care, helps find resources and manage crisis, and monitors the child's or adolescent's progress. Case Managers also work with the child and family to achieve treatment goals through various activities and interventions.

Attendant Care: An Attendant Care provider spends time with a child or family to help them work on specific goals and activities such as chores, studies, and recreation.

Parent Support and Education: This program provides a support network for parents/caretakers of children and adolescents with SED. Parent Support workers assist parents and caretakers in better understanding children with SED and how to best access resources within the community. They frequently plan family programs and activities.

Psychosocial Rehabilitation: These are group activities that minimize/resolve the effects of mental/emotional impairments which previously required hospital services. These groups are designed to assist the individual with daily problem solving, improving social skills, leisure time training, health and wellness, and enhancing personal relationships.

School-Based Services: Pawnee staff join with school districts to provide intensive services to children with SED. These include Therapeutic Learning Classrooms, psychosocial rehabilitation groups, and school-based treatment and assessment. School-based services are available by agreement among family, school, and Pawnee.

Happy Bear Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Program: The Happy Bear Program is a personal safety lesson for ages pre-school through second grade which helps children to recognize, resist, and report sexual assault and other inappropriate behavior. The 15-minute skit is presented by a costumed 'bear' and his teacher. Contact OFFICE LOCATION nearest you for scheduling information.

Medical Services

Medication evaluation and treatment are provided by psychiatrists and advanced registered nurse practitioners (ARNP) in Manhattan, Junction City, Concordia, and other locations. Our medical providers treat adults, children, and adolescents. Registered nurses assist in monitoring medications and responding to phone calls.

Prevention, Treatment and Recovery Services

The Regional Prevention Center: RPC focuses on empowering communities to create healthy environments for citizens to live, learn, and grow. The RPC supports community-based initiatives that center on increasing protective factors and reducing risk factors evident in the community. The RPC is devoted to providing science-based, data-and-outcome driven resources to communities as they deal with the issue of substance abuse. The RPC is available to provide training, education, and consultation to communities, coalitions, task forces and or partnerships. We embrace the 'Communities That Care' model, which identifies 19 risk and protective factors for adolescent problem behaviors (such as substance abuse), as the mechanism for making Kansas the best place to raise a child.

See TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES for a list of the trainings offered by the Regional Prevention Center.

Alcohol & Drug Services: Alcoholism or drug dependence is a progressive disease that will continue to get worse without intervention and treatment. Pawnee's alcohol and drug abuse treatment program sees this as a primary disease in which a holistic treatment approach must be used. An individual's mental state, physical condition, social environment, emotional and spiritual life are all considered when treating substance abuse.

Clients are treated in either individual or group psychotherapy, or sometimes both, depending on their own personal situation and needs. We also provide court-ordered Alcohol and Drug Evaluations and court-ordered Alcohol and Drug Information School and Minor in Possession School. Contact the OFFICE LOCATION nearest you for additional information.
