Nursing Student Clinical Placements & Preceptorships

Gain hands-on experience in behavioral health care while completing your nursing program’s academic requirements.

Pawnee Mental Health offers unpaid clinical placements and preceptorships for eligible nursing students. Each request is reviewed individually based on the student’s academic requirements and Pawnee’s ability to provide an appropriate learning experience.

Available Student Experiences

Pawnee may support the following experiences:

  • Clinical placements: Structured academic experiences in which students complete required clinical activities under the guidance of an approved Pawnee preceptor.
  • Preceptorships: Individualized learning experiences in which students work with a qualified Pawnee professional to meet specific academic objectives and clinical-hour requirements.

Available experiences may vary based on the student’s program, required hours, learning objectives, requested clinical activities, evaluation requirements, and preferred placement dates.

Eligibility and Requirements

To be considered for a clinical placement or preceptorship, students must:

  • Be actively enrolled in an accredited nursing or advanced-practice nursing program
  • Provide detailed information about their academic program and clinical requirements
  • Submit a completed Nursing Student Placement Interest Form
  • Meet all onboarding, background-check, health, compliance, and documentation requirements
  • Have an approved affiliation agreement or memorandum of understanding between Pawnee and their educational institution, when required
  • Receive approval from both Pawnee and their educational program before beginning the placement

Additional requirements may apply depending on the student’s program and requested experience.

How Placement Requests Are Evaluated

Placement decisions are based on:

  • Availability of qualified preceptors
  • Clinical team capacity
  • Alignment between the requested experience and the student’s learning requirements
  • Pawnee’s ability to meet the educational program’s expectations
  • Completion of required affiliation agreements and supporting documentation
  • The requested location, schedule, and placement dates

Submitting an interest form does not guarantee placement. Students may not begin clinical activities until all required reviews, agreements, approvals, and onboarding requirements have been completed.

Same-Day Shadowing Is Not Available

Pawnee Mental Health does not offer same-day or informal shadowing experiences. Before participating in any clinical placement, preceptorship, or observational experience, students must complete all required approvals, onboarding activities, background checks, compliance documentation, and applicable affiliation agreements.
