Whether you are pursuing a degree in social work, counseling, psychology, marriage and family therapy, nursing, human services, or another behavioral health-related field, we are committed to providing a supportive learning environment that helps bridge the gap between the classroom and professional practice.

Internship Eligibility

To be considered for an internship, applicants must:

  • Be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university program related to behavioral health or a similar field.
  • Be completing an internship or practicum required by their academic program.
  • Have an affiliation agreement between Pawnee Mental Health Services and their educational institution, or provide school contact information so one can be established.
  • Provide all required practicum documentation from their educational institution before placement.

Application Process

Our internship process is designed to ensure students are matched with opportunities that best fit both their educational goals and organizational needs.

Step 1: Submit Your Application

Complete the Internship Application available at the bottom of this page.

Step 2: Application Review

Applications are reviewed by the appropriate department supervisor to determine whether placement opportunities are available and whether the applicant meets departmental and academic requirements.

Step 3: Interview

Qualified applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview with the hiring supervisor. During the interview, we'll discuss your educational objectives, practicum requirements, and potential placement opportunities.

Step 4: Internship Selection

Selected applicants will receive an internship offer contingent upon successful completion of all onboarding requirements.

Before Your Internship Begins

Prior to your first day, interns must complete several onboarding requirements, including:

  • Submission of all required practicum documentation
  • Verification or completion of an affiliation agreement with your educational institution
  • Successful completion of the required background check
  • Completion of all onboarding documentation
  • Attendance at Pawnee Mental Health's New Hire Orientation

Please note that interns may not begin their placement until all onboarding requirements have been completed.

Is the internship paid?

Compensation varies depending on the position, department, and funding availability. Available paid opportunities will be identified within the internship posting when applicable.

What schools do you partner with?

We work with many colleges and universities throughout Kansas and surrounding states. If we do not currently have an affiliation agreement with your school, our Human Resources team will work with your institution to establish one whenever possible.

When should I apply?

We encourage students to apply as early as possible before their anticipated practicum semester to allow sufficient time for interviews, affiliation agreements, background checks, and onboarding.
