What is a CCBHC?

Pawnee Mental Health has received its provisional certification as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) and will work towards full certification by March 2024. This new designation enhances the organization's ability to serve the community comprehensively, ensuring that individuals receive whole-person care at the right time while preserving its longstanding status as a Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) since 1956.

CCBHCs are a federal Medicaid model that relies on intensive care management to integrate physical and mental health care. Kansas is the first state in the nation to pass CCBHC legislation requiring all 26 Community Mental Health Centers in Kansas to move towards certification as CCBHCs by July 2025.

CCBHCs are required to provide nine core services:

  • Screening, assessment, and diagnosis
  • Primary care screening and monitoring
  • Crisis care mental health services
  • Patient-centered treatment planning
  • Outpatient mental health and substance use services
  • Targeted case management
  • Psychiatric rehabilitation services
  • Peer support, counseling, and family support services
  • Veterans Services
