1950s
November 19, 1956 - Riley County Mental Health Center was created
1957 - KS Legislature authorized counties to levy a tax to support Community Mental Health Centers
1960s
1963 – Geary County joined. The two counties formed the Geary/Riley Guidance Center
1965 – Clay & Marshall Counties Joined. The center was renamed North Central KS Guidance Center (NCKGC)
1967 – Cloud County Commissioner fund Sunflower Guidance Center (SGC)
1968 – Pottawatomie County joined NCKGC service area
1970s
1972-74 - Jewell, Republic, Mitchell, and Washington Counties join the Sunflower service area
1976 – SGC changed its name to Sunflower Mental Health Center (Sunflower)
1977 – NCKGC & Sunflower affiliate to form Pawnee Comprehensive Mental Health Center
1980s
1982 – Board of Directors changed name to Pawnee Mental Health Services
1988 – Pawnee in-patient Psychiatric Unit at Saint Mary Hospital (now Mercy Health Center) in Manhattan opened
1990s
1997 – Topeka State Hospital closed. Pawnee shifted to Osawatomie State Hospital catchment area, with mandate to reduce state hospitalization, emphasis on community-based treatment.
2000s
2001 – Pawnee and Mercy Health Center ended their 13-year partnership to operate a psychiatric unit at the hospital.
2005 – Pawnee converted from a paper-based electronic medical record to an electronic medical record.
2006 – 50 years of service!
2010s
2014 – Community-based Services is renamed “Youth Rehabilitation Services.” Community Support Services is renamed “Adult Rehabilitation Services.”
November 2019 – Crisis Services offices and Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) opens at 1558 Hayes Dr. in Manhattan
2020s
2021 – 65 years of service!
