No Surprises Billing Protection

The No Surprises Act was passed by Congress in 2020 to help reduce the problem of consumers receiving an unexpected bill in an emergency situation or when they are out-of-network.

By law, Pawnee Mental Health must give patients a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much services will cost with no insurance, not using insurance, or if the provider is not in your health plan’s network.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.
  • If Pawnee Mental Health becomes aware your provider is out-ofnetwork, you will be given an estimate of the cost before your appointment in compliance with the No Surprises Act.
  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your service or item. If you need an estimate, call (785) 587-4344.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
  • Make sure you keep a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
