How I can help:

I'm Jena, a dual board certified APRN. I enjoy creating a partnership with my patients to effectively manage needs with medications and collaboration with interdisciplinary professionals for whole person-centered care approach.

My specialties:

I specialize as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner across the lifespan for patients 6 years old and up.  I have additional training in medication assisted treatment to help those with opioid use disorder.  I work to create an affirming space for all clients regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or ability status.  It is my goal to help you achieve effective symptoms control.

More about me:

I joined the agency in October of 2022 as the Director of Medical Services.  Part of my passion is always looking for ways to improve the processes.  I started working in healthcare in 2000 as a nurse assistant.  I earned my LPN in 2009 and went on to complete my RN and third associate degree in 2010.  I have since held roles in a variety of specialties including urgent care, emergency care, pediatrics, internal medicine, urology, medical surgical, post-op care, hospice, geriatric psychiatry, clinical management, unit charge nurse, house supervisor, and many others.  I earned my second bachelor’s degree in 2013 in nursing.  I continued to develop my skill set and went on to obtain my first master’s degree in nursing and APRN license in 2017.  In 2020 I completed a post master’s certificate and achieved a terminal degree in 2022 when I earned my doctorate degree.  I am dual board certified:  American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C), and with American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).  I have worked as an APRN in a hospital setting as part of a psychiatric consultation service, in an inpatient psychiatric setting, in rural community mental health, and in a federally qualified healthcare center.  I have been in a leadership role for much of my APRN career while continuing to manage patients alongside my team.

In my free time I enjoy volunteering with Astronomical Society of Kansas City where I have worked with the public, served on the Board of Directors, and provided education.  I also enjoy traveling, hiking, and spending time with my family.
